NATIONWIDE – HOUSING AND HOMELESSNESS
UK Community Foundations is working with Nationwide Building Society to deliver a programme to help local communities provide better homes. The fund opens for applications on Monday 5th March 2018.
The fund will support charities delivering local housing projects and will be distributed via a group of Community Foundations across Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the West Midlands. Please see fund factsheet for areas covered by Heart of England Community Foundation. Please note that is does not cover Coventry and Warwickshire.
CRITERIA FOR THE FUND
Housing projects and charities are encouraged to apply for grants to help make a change in their local areas. Grants of up to £25,000 will be available to single organisations and up to £50,000 will be available for partnership bids. With funding, successful projects will be able to provide housing services to people in need, support people off the streets, and more.
Now you can help Nationwide support local housing projects in your area, so even more people can have a place fit to call home. The applications will be reviewed and shortlisted by a regional board of Nationwide members, employees and housing experts. The shortlist will then be put to members to vote on in that region.
ONLY REGISTERED UK CHARITIES CAN APPLY TO THIS FUND
What difference will it make?
Local housing projects are a great way to provide the kind of homes communities really need, whether it’s homes to buy or homes to rent. With these grants, the projects will be able to do things like provide housing services to people in need and support people off the streets.
Who will we support?
We support projects grouped under three Key Themes:
- Preventing people from being homeless, this could be by improving physical, emotional or social conditions
For example, developing new accommodation for those who are currently homeless.
- Helping people into a home, this could be by helping people into supported accommodation or stabilising rental accommodation
For example, helping people to access bond schemes.
- Supporting people to remain in their home, this could be by supporting people’s independent living within their current home
For example, offering adaptations to support older people or people with disabilities to live at home and continue to be active.
SOCIAL INVESTMENT AT NATIONWIDE
Nationwide believes doing what is right by their members and their communities is at the heart of what it means to be a building society. Following a member vote in 2007, Nationwide invests at least 1% of pre-tax profits to support good causes each year.
BUILDING SOCIETY, NATIONWIDE
Nationwide was set up to help people save and borrow money to build their own homes. 130 years on, the housing crisis has meant many people across the UK are living in unsuitable, insecure, or unaffordable accommodation.
Based on feedback from their members, Nationwide has launched a programme to enable everyone to have a place fit to call home.
Nationwide will be working with colleagues, members and housing experts across the UK to find local solutions to national housing issues, and to make a difference to communities in the long-term.
