Foreword.

As this report illustrates, the Heart of England Community Foundation offers a wonderful resource by bringing together donors and local community groups and charities. Since its scope broadened to include Birmingham and the Black Country, it has given grants to a range of projects, from forest schools to sports clubs, which are benefitting neighbourhoods in this city and region now and in the longer-term.

This is only possible through the generosity of individuals and businesses. In an age when many people feel powerless to shape the world around them, donating money to charitable organisations with deep local roots such as the Heart of England Community Foundation, offers a way to make a concrete difference in someone’s life. We can glimpse some of the resulting stories of good news in this report.

As one of the Presidents of the Heart of England Community Foundation, I am deeply encouraged by the Foundation’s stewardship of this generosity. The Foundation provides an important point of connection between local philanthropists and communities, and its provision of grants enables grassroots groups to make a tangible difference to the world around them. I hope you will be encouraged and inspired as you read of its work this year.
